General Practice Airways Group

The professional website for GPs, practice nurses and allied healthcare professionals

New guide for the management of COPD

The General Practice Airways Group (GPIAG) has launched a user-friendly guide to help clarify the key points of the NICE Guideline for the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The streamlined guide has been specifically designed to make the NICE guidance more relevant and accessible to GPs, nurses, and other allied primary healthcare professionals.

Easy-to-read and simple-to-follow, the 18-page guide provides answers to frequently asked questions such as ‘how do I manage attacks?’, ‘how do I distinguish between COPD and asthma?’ and ‘how do I know what treatment to give and when?’ It also has a useful pull-out patient-centred management section for use in everyday practice.

The booklet is free to all primary healthcare professionals and can be downloaded from the GPIAG‘s website at http://www.gpiag.org/news/copd_guide/guidelinev14.pdf (PDF document).

It can also be obtained by sending a large self-addressed (C5) envelope (postage charge 64p) to GPIAG Publications, Smithy House, Waterbeck, Lockerbie, DG11 3EY
